Substitute Musicians Wanted for Church Services in Athens, GA

The Christian Science Society of Athens is seeking talented pianists, keyboardists, and soloists to serve as substitute musicians for our Sunday and Wednesday services. We especially welcome qualified students and faculty from the University of Georgia to apply!

About the Opportunity

Located at 578 Whitehead Rd, Athens, GA, just a few miles from UGA, our church is seeking substitute musicians to enhance our worship services with inspiring music. We have a grand piano and an electronic keyboard available for performances; and an upright piano in our Sunday School, which we often use for our Wednesday services. Our services are approximately one hour in length, at 10:30am on Sundays, and 6:30pm on Wednesdays.

Sunday Service Requirements

Pianist/Keyboardist:
- Play a 7-10 minute contemplative prelude.
- Perform three hymns from our Hymnal, chosen by the First Reader.
- Play a 1-minute offertory.
- Play a 2-5 minute postlude.
- Accompany the soloist during their performance.
Soloist:
- Sing a solo selected by a church member, suitable to the weekly Bible Lesson.
Compensation: To be determined.

Wednesday Service Requirements

Pianist (no soloist required):
- Play a 7-10 minute contemplative prelude.
- Perform three hymns from our Hymnal, chosen by the First Reader.
- Play a 2-5 minute postlude.
Compensation: To be determined.

Audition Process

Remote auditions preferred via Zoom or similar platforms.
In-person auditions available upon request.
Candidates should prepare a sample prelude or postlude (2-5 minutes) and demonstrate hymn accompaniment skills. Soloists should prepare a sacred or classical piece suitable for worship.
